You may or may not like Al Gore, however he wrote his "Eco" book, Earth in the Balance back in 1992. He was at the forefront of warning folks about global warming. Since then CO2 concentrations have continued to rise, and we've done little to staunch the flow. So take issue all you want, he's been pretty clear in his views for over 20 years, and most of the predicitions his book made back in 1992 have come to pass.

What XMas Present Would You Like This Year???
by minimus inone thing that jws do, whether they were "strong in the truth" or not is accept presents.
even if they don't "celebrate" thanksgiving, they'd still take the turkey from the employer.
if someone sent out a birthday gift or christmas present, a witness would still take but never givein return.

anyone ever had a pet custody battle in a divorce
by dawgfan ini feel somewhat ridiculous.
i know that a dog is not the same as a child but even my soon to be ex has conceeded on alot of points in the divorce papers, we cannot agree on who gets custody of the dog.
i've always had dogs when i was growing up, but i really love this dog that we have.

Jesus man, it's a dog. Let her have it, make her cough up a few things for it, go buy yourself two new puppies, and move on with life.

It's official ! jw's don't SHUN
by KAYTEE ini have just seen the video with the jw spiritual leader giving evidence in a court case.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e2o4lbgx81u there he says,.
"we dont use the word, shunning".

He said that "shunning" was much worse, with tar and feathering done. Has anyone EVER heard of someone getting tarred and feathered? Give me a break. As usual they parse their words, and make statements that while may be true in the abstract, they are not true in the practical.

My Work Was Stolen!
by lovelylil inthis is really making me mad.
i write articles about different bible topics.
they are mostly geared to new christians to help them get a better understanding of basic doctrine, christian life, and christianity in the early church.

I highly doubt your writings are as significant as Paul's, but nonetheless, I'd say let it be, don't worry about it, and just not share your writings with him in the future. And yes Jesus will deal with your friend "stealing" in due time.

My it seems like you need your ego stroked more than spreading the good news about Jesus. I think you need some lessons in humility. In the big picture what does it matter. If "your" words help someone else find Jesus as savior, isn't that more important? I believe Jesus would council you on your ego. May peace be with you sister.

The Society's more permissive stance on blood fractions could kill my Mum!
by nicolaou inwe had my mum and dad down for a meal at the weekend.
me and mum have a kind of 'unspoken truce' going on where neither of us raise an issue in conversation that will lead to a discussion on any jw sensitive topics.
it's not perfect and it doesn't always work but at least we are maintaining a relationship of sorts.. anyway, knowing that this is the 'blood card' time of year i did take the chance on asking mum just what her personal stand on blood and fractions would be.

This is an interesting thread, and timely. I just had the same conversation with my parents Nicolau. I am here at home for the next 6 weeks or so and we talked about blood. I was explaining all the blood fraction issues, and it made my mom & dad both say, "We aren't taking ANY BLOOD of ANY KIND, REGARDLESS of what is "allowable". I felt like I shot myself in the foot. But the WTBS has confused them all, and it seems like from the many posts here that most active JW's are simply taking the no blood whatsoever route. Maddening as hell!!!!!!!!!

My Son Told Me Today That..................
by lovelylil inhe really wants to be a navy seal!
my hubby is ex navy and so was his grandfather so he has always heard stories about the navy.
he will be 12 on dec. 19th and i know he has been interested in the military in general since he was about 8. my first reaction was fear because i don't ever want my kids to do anything that could put them in harms way.

The Navy Seals are so extreme, and difficult to get into it's unfathomable. I have good friends in the military both enlisted and officers. I would use his dream to make sure he is futhering his study. Make sure he knows he needs to get to Annapolis for the Naval Academy. The life of an officer, and a Seal, would still be difficult, but a career choice certainly.
